Each capsule contains Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) Flower and Leaf Extract 250mg.

Plant Description

St. John's Wort medicinal parts are its flowering parts and leaves. Widely grown in Europe and hilly regions of Asia, especially in Shan State, Myanmar.

Active Principles

Active ingredients include hyperforin, hypericin, pseudohypericin, and flavonoids: quercetin, hyperoside, quercitrin, isoquercitrin, rutin, campherol, luteolin and 13-118-biapigenin.

Pharmacological Action

Hyperforin acts as an antidepressant by blocking the reuptake of neurotransmitters norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine — increasing their levels in the brain to improve mood and restore emotional balance. Also inhibits reuptake of GABA, increasing relaxation and reducing anxiety.

Indications

• Mental refreshment
• Mild to moderate depression and secondary symptoms: headache, sweating, palpitation, anxiety and insomnia

Dosage

12 years and above — one capsule two times daily

Drug Interactions

St. John's Wort affects the metabolism of some medicines including Warfarin, Digoxin, hormonal contraceptives, anticonvulsants and SSRIs.

Precautions

• Phototoxic reactions may occur at high dose
• Should be avoided if using hormonal contraception

Under 12 years old
