SawPalmetto Serenoa repens Extract Supplement

Each tablet contains Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) Berries Extract 160mg.

Saw palmetto has long been known as the "old man's friend." Lipophilic extracts of Saw palmetto berries, rich in fatty acids and sterols, are currently approved by medical scientists for treatment of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia).

Pharmacological Actions

Anti-androgenic Effect

Liposterolic Saw palmetto extract inhibits 5-alpha-reductase, resulting in decreased dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Also competitively inhibits binding of testosterone and DHT to cytosolic and nuclear androgen receptors.

Anti-estrogenic Effect

Competitively blocks translocation of cytosolic estrogen receptors to the nucleus.

Anti-inflammatory Effect

Inhibits synthesis of arachidonic acid inflammatory metabolites through double blocking of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase pathways, resulting in anti-inflammatory properties.

Indications

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
• Inflammation of the urinary tract and urinary bladder
• Impotency and low libido
• Nocturnal enuresis

Dosage

Adult men — one tablet two times daily after meal. Continue treatment even after BPH symptoms are relieved, especially in men over 60 years.

Combination Therapy

Can be used together with Bee Pollen (BeePollen®) for synergistic effect in BPH treatment.

Drug Interactions

Exerts estrogen, androgen and α-adrenergic blocking effects. Concomitant use with hormone-like or adrenergic drugs may require dose adjustment.

Contraindications

Under 12 years old, pregnancy and lactation

Side Effects

Nausea and dizziness in some individuals.

Storage Note

Due to the nature of Saw palmetto extract, a strong smell may develop during storage.
