Mangosteen Garcinia mangostana Xanthone Supplement

Each tablet contains Garcinia mangostana Pericarp Extract (Xanthones) 200mg.

Phytochemistry

Approximately 40 of over 200 naturally occurring xanthones are found in Garcinia mangostana. Most studied xanthones: α-, β- and γ-mangostins, garcinone E, 8-deoxygartanin and gartanin. They possess antioxidant, anti-tumoral, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.

Pharmacological Actions

Anti-microbial Activities

Broad spectrum anti-bacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, S. typhimurium and B. subtilis. Active against both methicillin-resistant and methicillin-sensitive S. aureus. α- and β-mangostin and garcinone B exhibit potent inhibitory effect against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MIC 6.25 µg/ml).

Anti-allergic Action

α- and γ-mangostin are histaminergic and serotonergic receptor blocking agents respectively. Mangosteen fruit extract strongly inhibits histamine release and prostaglandin E2 synthesis.

Anti-inflammatory Action

α-mangostin attenuates inflammatory mediators TNF-α and IL-6. Garcinone B interferes with NF-κB activation. γ-mangostin inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 activities and conversion of arachidonic acid to PGE2. Mangosteen juice ingestion decreases serum C-reactive protein levels.

Anti-tumour Activities

Xanthones cause cell cycle arrest, suppress tumour cell proliferation, induce apoptosis and differentiation, reduce inflammation and inhibit adhesion, invasion and metastasis. At low doses, tumour growth is delayed; at high doses, tumour size gradually decreases with complete regressions observed.

Dosage

12 years and above — one tablet two times daily after meal

Combination Therapy

Can be used in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents as adjuvant therapy to achieve increased therapeutic efficacy and minimize chemotherapy-induced toxicity.

Side Effects

Irritation of gastric mucosa and constipation may occur in some individuals.
